Vigil for Sandy Hook and Gun Violence Victims
December 14, 2019 @ 5:00 am - 6:00 am
Seven years after 26 first graders and their teachers were massacred at Sandy Hook Elementary School we continue to hold vigil in front of the NRA and fight for gun safety reform in federal and state legislatures across the country.
Please join us for this very special Saturday vigil to remember the angels of Sandy Hook and all of the victims of gun violence. There will be some special guests joining us that day, along with inspiring music by Crys Matthews.
America leads the world in gun violence. More than 1.2 million Americans have been shot in the past decade, millions more have witnessed gun violence firsthand, and hundreds of millions—nearly every American—will know at least one victim of gun violence in their lifetime.
This is an epidemic. Gun deaths now surpass motor vehicle deaths. Yet for nearly 300 days, Senator Mitch McConnell has sat on gun safety legislation which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. He does nothing as more killings occur every day.
We will never stop fighting until gun violence is addressed as a national public health issue and gun safety reform such a universal background checks are implemented. Virginians took a big step in this direction in the November election. Several gun safety measure have already been introduced for consideration in the 2020 Virginia General Assembly session. There is great hope.
Please join us. You are welcome to bring a sign or we’ll have plenty there. Wear something green and white if you can–Sandy Hook school colors.
Stand up for those that can longer speak for themselves
Stand up for the victims of yesterday, tomorrow and next week.
Stand up to stop the insanity!
