Good Trouble Vigil for Democracy (Washington DC)
July 17, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Join HRI at the “Good Trouble” candlelight vigil for democracy at Black Lives Matter Plaza at BLM Plaza in Washington, D.C.
On the one year anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing, we’ll call for the Senate to protect our democracy and voting rights by passing the “For the People Act” (S.1./H.R.1), the “John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act” and D.C. Statehood. We will honor John Lewis’ legacy with candles, music and brief speeches from faith, youth and political leaders. This vigil will be led by Public Citizen.
Meet us at 6:45 p.m. at Wiehle metro near the farecard machines. We’ll ride metro to Farragut West, hold letters at the vigil from 8-9:30 p.m. and return to Wiehle around 10:30 p.m.
Facemasks are optional for fully vaccinated people but mandatory if you are not fully vaccinated. Please wear an HRI neon yellow protest shirt, if possible, and bring water.
