SUMMARY:Swarm the Senate: Remove Trump (Begins 1/6 --> ongoing)
DESCRIPTION:Protest\, organizing\, and activism helped make Trump’s impeachment possible. It’s time to mobilize for removal. We’ll swarm the Senate beginning Jan. 6 to demand Trump’s removal from office. We will flood the atrium of the Hart Senate Building every day at noon. We’ll be non-violent and law-abiding. Watch for additional meetup times and places as the process moves forward. \nTogether\, we have more power than we realize. \nMeet us at Wiehle-Reston Metro by fare card machines at 10:10 a.m. We’ll take the Metro to Capitol South and walk 3 blocks to the Hart Senate Building atrium. We’ll be indoors most of the time. If possible\, wear something neon yellow (example HRI protest shirt or scarf). Protest t-shirts and buttons are permitted in Senate buildings\, signs are not. \nHerndon-Reston Indivisible is co-sponsoring Swarm the Senate with Remove Trump\, Indivisible (national) and many other partners. SUMMARY:Women's Legislative Equality Summit
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for Virginia’s 1st Annual Women’s Equality Legislative Summit \nThe summit will be hosted by VAratifyERA and the newly formed Virginia chapter of the National Women’s Political Caucus on Tuesday\, January 7\, 2020\, from 9:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.\, at or near the Virginia State Capitol (details will be updated as soon as they are finalized). \nThe goal of the summit is to bring together a variety of organizations to work together as advocates on a full slate of women’s equality issues. The Equal Rights Amendment will be ratified in 2020 but women in Virginia will still need important legislation passed. \nDuring the summit\, chief patrons will be provide a fifteen-minute overview for eight pieces of selected legislation related to women and equality. If the legislators are unavailable\, the organization(s) submitting the legislation will be invited to present the topic. \nThe discussion of each bill or resolution will include a brief overview\, key talking points\, and requested action(s) from summit participants to build public support for and awareness of the issue or legislation. \nBills are currently being submitted for inclusion and we anticipate bills in some/all of the following areas: campus life\, domestic/sexual violence\, women’s health (pregnancy\, breastfeeding\, and maternal mortality)\, pay equity\, and women in jails/prisons. Additionally\, we anticipate inclusion of a bill for LGBTQ+ equality and another to promote racial equity on the voter redistricting commission. \nWebsite Link: https://varatifyera.org/january-7th-summit/?fbclid=IwAR0AZaeZ5nomGaCFMlWXWT2iajGgIO7e1Ib9bh-Uclu52JP-fxoN-MpKxzQ
