SUMMARY:Remember January 6th and Take Action
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Jan 6th from 2:50pm – 7:45pm\nOn the Mall near the US Capitol\n\nJoin HRI in holding our lighted letters to remember the day where violent demonstrators and treasonous parties attempted to overthrow the vote of the people by interrupting the declaration of the lawful vote which precedes a peaceful transfer power as called for in our Constitution. \nSIgn-Up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0e4cafaf28a5ff2-remember \nAs many more states move to enact restrictive voting legislation\, we must remember the activities that took place on January 6\, 2021 and call for action that will prevent such hinderances from becoming the law of the land. \nThe organizers have set the agenda as follows:\nDate: January 6\, 2022\nTime: HRI in place no later than 4:30 pm\nRally begins at 4:45 pm and is expected to end at 7:45 pm\nPlace: The Mall\, with the Capitol in the background – between the museums\, specifically 3rd Street between Madison Dr NW and Jefferson Dr SW. \nWe expect to be in place for 3 hours. It would be great if we could have two teams of letter-holders\, so that folks won’t have to hold our letters on sticks for more than 1 to 1.5 hours. Even a few extras will allow breaks to be given to everybody on a rotating basis. \nMeet up info: We will meet at 2:45 pm at the Wiehle Reston Metro Station. We will ride metro to the Federal Center Southwest station or change to the Red Metro and exit at the Archives station and then walk to the rally point at the Mall\, and hold our letters through the rally from 4:45 – 7:45 pm. Then we will return to Reston via Metro. \nCome rain or shine!!! \nWe request that all volunteers be vaccinated and observe appropriate public health precautions.  Facemasks are required on Metro\, and are advised even when outside if you are in a large group of people. Please wear an HRI neon yellow protest shirt\, hat\, or scarf if possible\, and bring water and a snack. \nThose who sign up will be guaranteed to hold a letter; others may rotate in\, as needed. You’re encouraged to bring like-minded friends and family to join the rally! \nLeader: Ginny Reed

SUMMARY:Women's March: National Call To Mobilize & Defend Our Reproductive Rights
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date: October 2nd\nWomen’s March: National Call To Mobilize & Defend Our Reproductive Rights\nTake the Pledge: https://womensmarch.com/mobilize\n“On October 2\, we’re marching in every single state ahead of the Supreme Court reconvening on October 4. Women’s March and more than 90 other organizations\, including National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice\, Planned Parenthood\, SHERO Mississippi\, Mississippi in Action\, Access Reproductive Care-Southeast\, The Frontline\, Working Families Party\, and SisterSong\, are organizing a national call to mobilize and defend our reproductive rights.\nAbortion has never been fully accessible\, but we are at the risk of losing our reproductive freedom completely. The call to action is clear\, and urgent. The relentless attacks from Texas to Mississippi are ramping up quickly. Anti-choice extremists have a deep desire to return to a time when there was more clear and effective domination and control over queer and trans folks\, women\, and people of color; they want to revive those old values and societal norms to the point of re-acceptance. The authoritarian agenda of reproductive control is fueled by misogyny and racism – and we must challenge it\, together.\nOn October 2\, we’re going to send the Supreme Court and lawmakers across the country a clear\, unified message. The attack on our reproductive rights will not be tolerated.\nWe have this opportunity to invite all the people that know us and love us into this important movement and work united as we build something better for our families and communities. As a small powerful group tries to come for our human rights over and over again\, we’ll never let go of our vision of reproductive justice; for unfettered abortion access and everything we need to support and grow our families to thrive and live healthy lives.\nThis is your fight. This is our fight. This impacts all of us. Take the pledge today. Rise up wherever you are on October 2.”

SUMMARY:Herndon Town Council Hearing (Gun Ban Ordinance)
DESCRIPTION:Please attend the Herndon Town Council Hearing on Tuesday\, September 28th\, at 7:00 PM in the Herndon Council Chambers Building located at 765 Lynn Street\, Herndon to show you support for the local ordinance banning guns from town property. The purpose of this Hearing is to discuss the ordinance.\nPlease attend the Hearing and voice your support. The Town Council needs to hear from the people that live\, work\, visit or do business in Herndon.\nIndividuals may submit comments to town.clerk@herndon-va.gov\n\nDetails of the ordinance are HERE. In summary\, the ordinance would prohibit open carry in government buildings\, in parks\, and at town sponsored events. This is a less restrictive measure than a similar ordinance that was passed in Fairfax County (which restricts open and concealed carry in these places) and in Loudoun County (where concealed carry is restricted in government buildings).
